Rollaball

Rollaball is Tom Lubbe's answer to rose, and 2020 was its first vintage: old-vine Mourvedre and Carignan (50/50 in 2020) crushed and pressed whole-bunch with only the brief maceration that happens in the press, so the wine lands right on the line between rose and pale red. Spontaneous co-fermentation on native yeasts, ageing in concrete, then bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added sulphur at 11.5% alcohol. Cloudy strawberry in the glass; red and black currants, rhubarb and rosehip over rosemary, thyme, juniper and white pepper, with a salty, lightly phenolic palate. A low-alcohol vin de soif from Matassa's Agly valley vineyards, drinking closer to a chillable light red than a Provencal pink.
