The Rufo shows better fruit this time around, more present and defined than before. But it still feels like Matassa on autopilot - technically sound but missing that spark of life, that depth that makes you want another glass. It's my least favourite wine from Matassa, which is like saying it's my least favourite song on a great album. Even their B-sides are worth spinning.
Maybe it's an unfair comparison, but I enjoyed the Davoche Peychourigue 2023 much more. Rufo feels a bit empty - lacking energy and depth. Is it a varietal+location thing? Or just a wine that's too young? Hard to say, but drinking it now isn't particularly engaging.
There's not much fruit in the nose, just a touch of florality. On the palate, it's pleasantly saline, but again - there's little fruit and it feels hollow. It's not a bad wine by any means, but it leaves you wanting much more.
