Oof, this is beautiful. Served it at room temperature, and the wine opened with this floral, charming character - warm and sour red fruits mingling with spices and Sicilian orange. As it contacted with air, it drifted funkier on both nose and palate, but remained utterly charming throughout. Easy to drink, well-focused and structured. Typical Matassa beauty - which is to say, bloody lovely wine.
Pure refreshment in a bottle. Light-bodied red that drinks like it's on holiday - strawberries and cherries with a dusting of pink pepper, hints of thyme and rosemary whispering Mediterranean dreams. High acidity keeps everything lively and juicy. The tannins are there but barely - finely chiselled, just enough to remind you it's red wine. Subtle black tea and vanilla notes add depth without weight. This is thirst-quenching stuff, elegant in its simplicity. Chill it slightly and watch it disappear. Summer red done right.
