Sassicaia

The 2007 release of Sassicaia - 85% Cabernet Sauvignon / 15% Cabernet Franc, twenty-four months in French oak barriques with around a third new. 2007 in Bolgheri had a mild winter and below-average winter rain, pushing budbreak around ten days early. Mild spring and advanced flowering, rainy June, hot dry July, then unusually heavy mid-to-late August rains that re-established normal ripening rhythm. The wine lands ripe and supple but with notable freshness for a warm year - closer to harmonious than blockbuster.
