Artífice Llanito Perera

Llanito Perera is a neighbourhood of Icod de los Vinos, and Borja Pérez has bottled it as a paraje wine since 2016. The vines are old own-rooted Listán Blanco, more than eighty years old and, like the rest of Artífice, farmed by local growers, on stony, sandy basalt at roughly 575 to 650 m. It began with one plot; a second, larger one has joined it since.

Whole bunches go straight to the press, and the unsettled juice ferments with its own yeasts in used oak, 500 litre barrels and in some years a foudre, where it stays on the lees for about a year. For the 2021 he picked the site in three passes and kept the middle one for this wine. It is bottled without stabilisation.

Like the 2017, it is labelled simply as vino, one of the two Artífice wines released outside the Ycoden-Daute-Isora DO. In a 2017 interview Pérez called the DOs' rule books obsolete and said a wine can name its village or paraje honestly without a regulator legislating it. The 2022 ran to 4,580 numbered bottles, up from 1,248 in the 2017 and about 3,900 in the 2021.
