Join to read it and the restVidueño is the old Canarian name for vines of mixed varieties, the field blends of the islands' vineyards. Borja Pérez's Vidueños takes up the idea with less common Canarian white grapes: Gual, Marmajuelo and Albillo Criollo, with about a tenth Listán Blanco and some Forastera Gomera.
The grapes come from small own-rooted plots in San Juan de la Rambla, Icod de los Vinos and Buenavista del Norte, on volcanic soils. Each variety ferments separately with native yeasts in used 500 litre barrels, and the blend then rests on its lees; retailers give 8 to 11 months for the 2022, partly in a large foudre.
Marmajuelo has not been bottled on its own as Ignios Orígenes Marmajuelo since 2019, after a run of dry years. Here it still makes up a good part of the blend, about 30% by one retailer's count.
