The Culasso family has farmed the Faset hill in Barbaresco for generations - grandfather Modesto, then Dante, with the grapes long sold to other cellars - until Piercarlo, who had tended the vines for years, started bottling under his own name in 2017 with his children Martina, Michela and Marco. The estate is about 3 ha in seven parcels, all inside the Faset cru; farming is low-intervention with reduced chemical inputs, without organic certification.
The Langhe Nebbiolo is the range's deliberate no-wood wine: 100% Nebbiolo from southwest-facing parcels at 250-270 m on Sant'Agata fossil marls with limestone and clay, fermented 15-20 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aged about six months in steel before bottling. First made in 2020; the 2022 is the third release.
2022 in Piedmont was the second consecutive drought year - hot, with an early Nebbiolo harvest - yet the reds came out in the fresh, soft-tannined register critics dubbed the hot-vintage paradox. 14%.
