The Faset is the Culasso family's Barbaresco from their home cru, and 2019 was only the second vintage of this wine. The single-plot Duesoli had come first, in 2017; the Faset followed in 2018.
The grapes come from south-west-facing vines at 250 to 270 metres, on Sant'Agata marls with limestone and clay. They ferment for about twenty days in temperature-controlled steel and stay on their skins a while longer after that. The wine then spends around twelve months in a large French oak cask.
The Consorzio's harvest report describes a wet spring that filled the soil with water, followed by two heatwaves, the hotter one from late June into early July. Hail in early September hit two small areas on the hills around Alba but missed most of the Barbaresco zone. The Nebbiolo was picked in the second half of October.
A second vintage, from a year that let the hill through.
