Join to read it and the restThe Langhe Nebbiolo is the youngest wine the Culassos make, and here it comes in their biggest bottle.
It is the family's no-wood Nebbiolo, which they call the freshest version of their grapes. It comes from their own south-west-facing vines on Sant'Agata marls with limestone and clay. It ferments for 15 to 20 days in temperature-controlled steel, rests about six months in steel, and waits a while in bottle before release.
2024 was a nervous year in Barbaresco. Produttori del Barbaresco report very early bud break, around 20 March, and an April that swung from 27C down to single digits. The Consorzio's president describes a hot summer with regular rain, then heavy rain from late September into October that made the harvest hard for late varieties, Nebbiolo among them. Volumes were up on 2022 and 2023.
A wet autumn, and the youngest wine in the largest bottle.
