Tasting Notes
This wine seems to have aged more quickly than expected. Unlike the previous bottle, which had a more vibrant red hue, this one has taken on a colour reminiscent of Madeira. The aroma is intriguing, with VA that integrates well, alongside notes of wild strawberry compote, raw meat, nuts, and a hint of Madeira. It has a medium body, supported by good acidity, tannins, and overall balance, leading to a lengthy aftertaste. While the description might sound mundane, the experience of drinking this wine is far from it. It may not be the most thrilling wine out there, but its unique and charming character makes it an interesting drink.
Look, Alessio decided to serve it blind. What a trickster. My genuine guess was an older Pinot Nero (2010?). Then jokingly, I suggested Pinot Grigio (see Voodoo Child 2021). And the joke turned out to be correct! Mind-blowing.
Shock and excitement aside. This wine is delicious. Not very complex but a charming bouquet of sweet cherry, red flowers and raw meat. Round palate with good balance. I would enjoy a higher acidity, but the age kicks in. A tired strawberry stew.
About
The hot 2012 vintage resulted in slightly dried grapes. The 'white' grape was turned into red wine through late harvest, long maceration, and longer than usual ageing in old Slavonian oak barrels (36 months).
