Crispa

Crispa is Somma's still, dry take on Rkatsiteli, the Caucasian variety that remains one of Moldova's most planted whites. The 2025 comes from forty-year-old vines - old fruit by the standards of a house whose own Ciumai vineyard is 1.8 hectares of roughly 25-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon. Somma's whites are made from fruit bought from growers the brothers trust; for the Riesling that has meant juice from the Codru zone.

The winemaking is as bare as it gets: free-run juice only, nothing from the press, bottled as it is with no fining and no filtration. As across the range, the house works with little or no added SO2, and total production stays under about five thousand bottles a year - of Crispa there is so little that most of it goes straight to local fairs. The 2025 comes in at 12% alcohol.
