More interesting than the previous Saint Pierre, Les Brûlées 2020, - like all the lemon from a lemon tart got concentrated into this glass. Saltier, sharper, a touch of smoke threading through, with good structure underneath. The creamy register is still there, just balanced against the cut. Easy to read, not simple. Properly interesting.
About
Chateau-Renard is a single-parcel Arbois blanc from Chardonnay planted on grey marl studded with limestone fragments in Vadans, just outside Arbois. Native-yeast ferment, neutral-wood élevage, and ouillé topping keep the wine in a reductive, non-oxidative register. The style leans on cool calcareous soils for cut and salinity rather than tropical ripeness, and 2022's warm but balanced Jura season tends to give Dodane's whites weight without losing tension.
