Marcus is short for Marcus Terentius Varro, the Roman agronomist the cuvee is named after. It is a single-parcel Chardonnay from a small plot of mature vines on a limestone plateau above Rotalier, with marl in the subsoil, and tends to be the lightest and most mineral of the domaine's Chardonnays. In the house style it ferments spontaneously on indigenous yeasts and ages around nine months on its lees in topped-up (ouillé) neutral barrels, kept non-oxidative, with little to no added sulphur.
