Tasted blind and didn't recognise my own bottle - embarrassing, but telling. Where 2022 sang, 2021 broods. This vintage is all tension and tannic architecture, wound tight as a guilty conscience. Black fruits instead of red, liquorice root, spice, earth, chocolate shadows. Objectively good wine playing a completely different game. But when you've tasted what this can be in a generous year, it's hard not to feel shortchanged. Like meeting your friend's moody twin - same DNA, utterly different personality.
