Damn. This is stunning. Opens with dried cherries, balsamic, earth, dried wild strawberry, plum. Then the tertiary layers arrive - coffee, tar, leather, dried herbs, a hint of licorice. Great acidity, still soaring after twenty years. But the tannin - terrifyingly powerful, still gripping, still unresolved. Compared to the 2020 Serra, which was a controlled explosion of medicinal herbs and saturated fruit, the 2006 is rawer, more primal, less integrated - but with a depth and complexity that the younger wine hasn't earned yet. Another decade might not be unreasonable. The bones are immense.
