The village cuvée from Rousseau's roughly 3 ha of Gevrey-Chambertin AOC holdings (a figure that also contains the separately bottled Clos du Château monopole), drawn from parcels on the south and east sides of the village - around nine of them, average vine age about 35 years, on clay-limestone (per merchant sheets; the domaine publishes no per-wine data). Winemaking follows the house line: mostly destemmed with an occasional small stem fraction, 4-5 days of cold maceration, native yeasts, then 18-22 months in used one- and two-year barrels - new oak at Rousseau is reserved for the top crus. Single racking, no fining, light filtration only when needed. Bottled May 2025 per the import back label.
2023 in the Côte de Nuits: a very large crop off a cool, damp summer, then a sharp early-September heat spike that ripened everything fast - most fruit was picked in the first three weeks of September. Consensus register: ripe, charming, early-drinking, with freshness where yields were controlled. 13% on the label.
