Pretty cool stuff. Moderately oaked, with sunflower seed oil, wet wool, yellow fruit and a touch of spice. There's weight and roundness, but it's all lifted by a sharp, well-cutting acidity that keeps it fresh and focused. Nice style - confident but not overdone.
For me, this was the most controversial wine of the evening. It hails from a broad appellation and is still very young, yet it's crafted by PYCM, which builds expectations. The wine is certainly packed with character, but its intense reduction and closed nature indicate that it may have been opened prematurely. Nevertheless, it presents an intriguing mix of smoke, butter, yellow fruits, sardines, and a touch of wet wool. It boasts great acidity and a pleasant texture, although it still shows a green edge. In any case, it's a remarkable wine and it can easily beat some more specific appellations.
