Barbera d'Alba

Wow, this is a seriously impressive Barbera - worlds apart from the mass-market examples I've tasted before. It's refined and quietly captivating. The nose opens with red fruit and tobacco, then deepens with violet and savoury hints. On the palate, it's all about precision - juicy red fruit framed by an unexpectedly assertive yet well-integrated tannic structure, wonderful shaped by vinification. The acidity keeps it fresh, the length is remarkable, and the wine has real presence. Respect where it's due.
