Wonderful Champagne. Rich, but the body stays so well balanced by fruit and acidity that it doesn't knock you out. Good oxidative notes - that same pastille, chausson aux pommes, wet chalk, salted butter, red currant register from the last bottle, with a vegetal whisper. Mineral spine running underneath, hints of Jerez on the finish. Oak distinct but never opulent. Vinous and delicious.
This wine is vibrant, complex, and continuously evolving. The intricate nose showcases aromas of pastille, chausson aux pommes, wet limestone, wet chalk, salted butter, red currant, and subtle vegetal notes. On the palate, it is lively with a precise mineral backbone and hints of Jerez in the finish. The oak integration is particularly noteworthy - distinct yet never overpowering, adding depth without opulence. Vinous and delicious - I hope to give it another try in the future.
The Champagne Les Quatre Terroirs N°20 by Georges Remy - a grower-producer (RM-30361-01) from Bouzy with vigneron lineage running back to 1629. Source: four villages in the Grande Montagne de Reims - Bouzy, Ambonnay, and Louvois (all Grand Cru) plus Tauxières (Premier Cru). The label reads Premier Cru because Champagne rules require the lowest classification when blending across tiers. Base 2020 (94%) with 3% 2019 and 3% 2018 reserve. Blend: 73% Pinot Noir, 27% Chardonnay. Fermentation and élevage entirely in barrel on lees, ECOCERT organic. Tirage July 2021, dégorgement July 2023 (24 months on lees). Brut Nature (0 g/l), unfiltered. Production: 6501 bottles, 290 magnums, 40 jeroboams.
