La Isilla is a hectare of own-rooted bush-vine Garnacha, more than ninety years old, with a little Cariñena planted among it, in Cadalso de los Vidrios at 800 to 860 m, depending on the source. Pines, lavender and rockrose grow around it, and the soil is a fine white granite sand with slabs of granite rock.
It had been abandoned for years when the 4 Monos team took it on in 2012 or 2013 (the accounts differ), and 2014 was the first vintage. The grapes go in as whole clusters, with a cold soak and around 45 days on the skins, and the wine spends a little over a year in used French oak, usually a single 500 litre barrel. In 2021 the Cadalso village red, Aguja del Fraile, also took in a plot from the La Isilla paraje.
The 2022 was picked on 10 September and bottled in June 2024. From a plot that had been left abandoned, it now gives around 600 bottles a vintage.
