Arcano is the wine Nicola Gatta makes only in great years, and the one he leaves alone longest. Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, in equal parts by the importer's count, rest on their lees for 180 lune, nearly fourteen years at Gatta's 28-day moon. Like all his wines it has no added sulphites, and like his Nature cuvées, no dosage.
Which harvest sits at its heart is hard to pin down. The wine carries no vintage, and shop and press notes name 2004, 2006 or 2009 as the base, sometimes for disgorgements in the same year. Gatta calls it a single cru. A US retailer's notes name both halves of Campiani, east and west; Gatta himself sometimes writes of Campiani as one cru, which would square the two.
It leaves the cellar in small numbered editions, one disgorgement at a time. This one, from March 2025, ran to 458 bottles. If the retailer is right, Arcano joins the same two halves of Campiani that Gatta otherwise bottles apart, as the Pinot Nero 151 and the Chardonnay 479.
