Conciso Tinto comes from Quinta da Lomba, Niepoort's Dão outpost on the east-facing granite slopes of the Serra da Estrela at about 600 m; Dirk Niepoort bought the property in 2012 to save its old gobelet-trained vines - 80 to over 100 years - from being uprooted. The 2017 is a field blend led by Baga and Jaen, fermented in lagares with 20% whole bunches and a long, gentle maceration, then aged 20 months in an old large wooden vat and barriques at the quinta before unfiltered bottling in July 2019 - just 9,600 bottles. 2017 was the driest, earliest harvest on record in Dão, yet the wine keeps the light-handed register Dirk borrowed from Burgundy: pale-ish ruby, light tannin, vivid acidity, cherry, violet, mint and a salty edge.
