Redoma Tinto

Redoma Tinto is where Niepoort's dry-wine story began: the 1991 original, still drawn from old north-facing field-blend vineyards around Quinta de Nápoles and the Pinhão valley - Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, vines over seventy years old on schist at 150-500 metres. The 2021 caught one of the coolest Douro seasons in years: picking started 11 August on musts with high acidity and low sugar, and 100% whole bunches went into stainless steel lagares with mechanised treading for a short maceration, followed by malolactic and about 22 months in old wooden barrels. Bottled July 2023 at 12% - claret strength for a Douro red - in a run of 30,000 bottles; in the range it sits below Charme and Batuta as the house's Douro ambassador.
