Day four of the voyage stopped in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, though the ground was not new to them. The three parcels, La Clef, La Ronce and Trayette, belong to close family friends, and Olivier Bonville and Ferdinand Ruelle had worked them for several years.
In 2021 they pressed the three together in a traditional 4,000-kilo Champagne press, blending two grapes from the start. The wine was made in used demi-muids from La Tonnellerie Artisanale de Champagne.
It came to 3,504 bottles.
The label redraws Champagne as an old two-hemisphere world map, with the Marne on one side and the Côte des Bar on the other. Two villages are circled: Avize, the home port, and Mareuil, day four.
