The witch has changed her name twice. Decanter records that the wine was first released as La Bruja Avería and later as La Bruja de Rozas; it is now simply La Bruja. Spanish Wine Lover ties the original name to a 1980s children's television show: Bruja Avería is the puppet witch of La Bola de Cristal.
The wine sits at the base of the Comando G range. It is the regional Garnacha, under the village wines and the single vineyards.
The US importer's sheet for the wine describes the method. The grapes are picked by hand and each plot ferments on its own in open oak vats, with native yeasts and a gentle maceration of about 30 days. The wine then spends eight months in large oak foudres.
Frost shaped the 2024. The US merchant Zachys reports that the main site gave only 9,000 kg of grapes, against up to 30,000 in a normal year, and that a vineyard in El Tiemblo joined the blend. It describes the result as a regional Gredos red from the Cebreros side.
This bottling tells a slightly different story. It carries the Vinos de Madrid seal and is one of 9,743 bottles and 54 magnums, from granite at 1,000 metres. No source says how the two accounts relate.
Whatever the count, the witch is still the way in.
