Wadana Rully En Guesnes

Wadana is Dureuil-Janthial's Rully from the lieu-dit En Guesnes, in the south of the appellation, just below the premier cru Le Meix Cadot. En Guesnes is two parcels of clay that Le Meix Cadot separates. The name keeps the old preposition "es", meaning "in the", and guesne means marshy ground, a nod to the water in the plot. Water, the domaine explains, was "wadana" to the Gauls, and the cuvée takes its name from the word.

For Wadana the domaine uses Pinot Noir from vines over 50 years old, destemmed by hand so that every berry keeps its little stalk, vinified very gently and raised to last.

The domaine's sheets give the same cellar routine for all its Rully reds: two sorting tables, a week of cold maceration in wooden vats, then 12 months in barrel with a third new and six months in steel.
