Join to read it and the restWeninger's limestone Furmint. Despite the family's vineyards across the border in Sopron, this "vom Kalk" (from the limestone) is the Austrian bottling - Furmint off chalky, south-facing limestone at Ritzing in the Mittelburgenland, from vines planted around 2000. The Sopron Furmint is a separate cuvee, the Stein.
Franz Weninger farms biodynamically (Demeter, Respekt). The wine is direct-pressed, spontaneously fermented and aged in wood, goes through its natural malolactic, and is bottled unfiltered with very low sulphur. Dry, 12% abv. It carries the broad Weinland / Landwein designation, since the local Mittelburgenland DAC covers only the region's Blaufrankisch reds.
