Colares growers used to add a little Castelão, 15 to 20%, to the Ramisco from the sand. This wine brings the idea back, but from chão rijo, firm ground. Nuno Ramilo planted Ramisco on the clay and limestone of the Lizandro valley near the winery, between Sintra and Mafra, and Ramilo blend it with Castelão from the same slopes. The 2024 is 60% Ramisco and 40% Castelão, from massal selection and unirrigated vines.
Grown off the sand, it cannot be Colares, so it is labelled Vinho Regional Lisboa. The first vintage, 2023, was 70% Ramisco and 30% Castelão; it was destemmed, trodden by foot in a stone lagar for a week and aged in used French oak, and made about 1,500 bottles. Ramilo's sand-grown Ramisco is the Colares Ramisco.
