Wow - this is a proper treat. Opened it well into the evening, after several other bottles, and it still landed as utter beauty. Barbaresco DNA running through - super floral, delicate, a great fruit core with a touch of earthy depth. Great texture, a bit chalky, the tannin still grainy. Obviously needs more time in the cellar, but yo, it's so delicious right now.
Cascina Alberta's Langhe Nebbiolo is the estate's declassified Barbaresco - fruit from the younger Nebbiolo blocks on the same Treiso parcels that feed Giacone. Hand-picked in October and gently pressed, the grapes ferment with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel with daily pumpovers, then move into large Slavonian oak botti where malolactic finishes and the wine rests for around six months before bottling. 2021 was a long, mostly dry growing season in Barbaresco, with a brief April frost and good diurnal range in the run-up to harvest - a vintage that combines ripe tannins with retained aromatic lift. Certified organic (IT-BIO-015), 13.5% ABV, lot L.LA0621, packaged in the Albeisa bottle.
