Malvasia Reserva Velha 10 years is a sweet, Malmsey-style fortified Madeira from Vinhos Barbeito in Câmara de Lobos, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Malmsey is the sweetest of the classic Madeira styles, the sweetness retained because fortification with vinic alcohol arrests the fermentation while residual sugar remains. It is a multi-cask blend aged for ten years by the canteiro method, in which casks rest in the warmth of the lodge lofts rather than in the heated estufa tanks used for entry-level Madeira; the label and producer both cite old French oak casks. The ten-year designation reflects the minimum age of the wines in the blend. The grape is Malvasia, the variety that gives Malmsey its name; in modern Madeira this is Malvasia Branca de São Jorge, which Barbeito draws from vineyards on the north coast of the island. Bottled at 19% alcohol; imported to Ukraine by WineWine.
