Tasting Notes
Tasted blind. At first, I was thinking some kind of Bordeaux blend, then shifted to Spain - bet on Tempranillo, but it turned out to be pure Monastrell. The colour really threw me off: more ruby-brick, with a pronounced rim. And then there was the nose...
Dried fig, spices, vanilla, coconut, plums, game and leather. It's powerful---though the 17% ABV is shockingly well hidden (yet another reason Jumilla never crossed my mind). Welp, until you finish a glass and try to get up. Very direct, muscular, and entirely unapologetic in its mission to knock you over. The tannins are firm, acidity is pretty much abscent, and the flavours lean hard into chocolate and coffee notes.
Bold and expressive, but honestly a bit heavy for me to drink. Still, it was a fascinating wine to taste.
