Join to read it and the restIDDA's white, 100% Carricante from the south side of Etna. IDDA is the partnership between Angelo Gaja and Alberto Graci on the volcano's less-traveled southern flank, around Biancavilla and Belpasso; the fruit comes off south-west slopes at roughly 700 to 800 metres on volcanic soils - weathered lava, ash and pebbles, with no clay or limestone. It is labelled Sicilia DOP rather than Etna Bianco, because much of the Belpasso land sits outside the Etna DOC boundary. The wine is fermented in stainless steel, with a portion (around a fifth) aged in large-format oak casks for several months. Dry, 13% abv.
2024 on Etna was hot and dry, the drought broken by late rains - a larger crop than the very small 2023.
