Of course, it's insanely young. But despite this minor annoyance, VCLC still showcases its class. It boasts a beautiful and slightly spicy bouquet with notes of saddle, sour cherry, strawberry, dark fruits, cinnamon, vanilla, and earth. Almost perfectly balanced, though a bit tightly packed due to its age. This wine is complex and multilayered, with a firm structure and good acidity, making it refreshingly digestible and 'easy-going' despite its power. A fascinating wine that I look forward to experiencing in a more developed state.
The VCLC 2016, hailing from the eponymous 'Vigna Curva Lato Cantina' ("Curved Vineyard on the Side of the Cellar"), is yet another embodiment of Clarity, as Stella named the 2016 vintage. It rests for 43 months cradled by wood and an additional 32 months in the bottle, emerging in 6,447 standard bottles and 770 magnums.
VCLC '16 is one of the most recent releases by Stella di Campalto. And it's the least developed compared to other Brunello wines of the same vintage.
This Brunello stands out for its profound character. It presents a fascinating bouquet, a blend of earth, strawberry, dark fruits, vanilla, and spices. Its delicate composition is nearly perfectly balanced, though it reveals a youthful, almost childlike nature that speaks of its need for time to mature. Nonetheless, it's already complex and multilayered, aligning perfectly with my preferences. The wine features grippy tannins, a horizontal flavour profile, and an incredibly long aftertaste, making it a remarkable choice.
