Honestly thought this was Gewürz on the first sniff - or, mid-pour, even beer. The muscat-leaning aromatic register cuts through eventually: rose petal and lychee with a pinch of ginger, the kind of perfume Roter Traminer gets up to when skin contact and amphora age have time to pull it open. Fresh and bright on the palate, with a funky lees-driven thread that lands somewhere between yeasty bread and the salty edge skin-contact whites can carry. Not complex, but properly fun. OK by me.
100% Roter Traminer from Weingut Heinrich's Pannobile member estate in Gols, Burgenland. Hand-harvested late August, spontaneous fermentation, two weeks on skins, basket-pressed, then 17 months in amphora on the lees. Demeter biodynamic, unfiltered, no added sulfur. Bottled February 2024, 12% ABV.
