Bertè & Cordini is an Oltrepò Pavese estate based in Broni, in the province of Pavia (Lombardia) - the heart of Italy's main metodo classico Pinot Noir zone outside Trento.
The cellar itself dates to 1895, when it was founded by Francesco Montagna as one of the first wine-producing companies in Broni; the historic 'Francesco Montagna' label still appears on some bottlings. The Bertè-Cordini family took over operations in 1974 and continues to run the estate today.
The estate owns about 15 hectares of vineyards in Montù Beccaria and Zenevredo; another ~150 hectares are supplied by roughly 40 conferitori (grower-tenants), bringing the working total to around 165 hectares. The current lineup is broad:
Farming approach isn't documented as organic or biodynamic on the producer's site - they operate as a conventional Oltrepò estate, focused on the metodo classico tradition the region is known for.
A note on the region: Oltrepò Pavese DOCG is one of Italy's three principal metodo classico zones (alongside Franciacorta and Trento DOC), and its main calling card is Pinot Noir. The DOCG metodo classico requires at least 85% Pinot Nero in its Pinot Nero / Pinot Nero Rosé bottlings, with lees-ageing minimums of 24 months for the base wine, 36 for millesimato, and 48 for Riserva. Cruasé is the collective trademark of the regional consorzio for Oltrepò metodo classico rosé from Pinot Nero, vinified directly from Pinot Nero rather than as a still-rosé top-up.
