Family domaine in Meursault since the 1940s, formerly Coche-Bizouard: about 12 ha of Côte de Beaune vines, organic since 2017, wines unfined and unfiltered.
The Coche family has been in Meursault for generations, and the domaine goes back to the 1940s, when Julien Coche-Debord founded it. His son Alain Coche-Bizouard ran it next, and for years the bottles carried his name. Alain's son Fabien runs it now, and the labels say Domaine Fabien Coche.
The estate holds about 12 ha in Meursault and nearby Pommard, Monthelie, Auxey-Duresses and Saint-Romain. Since 2003 a small grape-buying side has added fruit from Saint-Romain, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin and Chassagne-Montrachet. The back label counts 27 appellations in all, 20 white and 7 red, while the domaine's site lists 25. The range tops out with two grands crus, Bâtard-Montrachet and Charmes-Chambertin, above the Meursault premier crus Goutte d'Or, Perrières and Charmes.
The farming has been organic since the 2017 vintage; certification was applied for with the 2020 harvest and came through in 2023. In the cellar the rule is restraint: no additives, no fining and no filtration, only low doses of liquid sulphur during vinification. The change in the vineyard started earlier, though. When Fabien took over, he stopped using herbicides and went back to ploughing.
