Marc Hébrart

Marc Hébrart set up the estate in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ in 1964. His son Jean-Paul Hébrart took over in 1997 and has since expanded the house into one of the more respected Pinot-led grower names of the Marne. Club Trésors de Champagne (Special Club) member since 1985.

Around 15-17 hectares across roughly eighty parcels in eleven villages. The anchor is Mareuil-sur-Aÿ Premier Cru for Pinot Noir; Grand Cru holdings in Aÿ, Louvois, Avize, Oiry, Chouilly and Cramant; further Premier Cru parcels in Bisseuil, Avenay-Val-d'Or and Dizy (including the walled Clos Léon), plus Hautvillers. Encépagement is roughly 70% Pinot Noir / 30% Chardonnay. No organic or HVE certification; lutte raisonnée in practice - strict yield control, minimal synthetic inputs, Chablis pruning, full soil tillage rather than cover crops. Around 12,000 cases a year.

In the cellar, parcel-by-parcel vinifications, mostly stainless with used oak for the top cuvées, long lees, low dosage trending Extra Brut at the top. The range runs from the Cuvée de Réserve Brut 1er Cru (the Pinot-led NV) through Sélection Extra Brut 1er Cru (old-vine Mareuil), a Blanc de Blancs, a Rosé, up to Rive Gauche-Rive Droite (vintage tête de cuvée, barrel-fermented, Côte des Blancs Chardonnay blended with north-of-Marne Pinot); Noces de Craie (Grand Cru Aÿ Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut, 100% Pinot from five chalk parcels, around 50 months on lees); the Club Trésors Special Club bottling, assembled from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ lieux-dits plus Grand Cru parcels in Chouilly (Montaigu) and Oiry (La Justices); and the Clos Léon Blanc de Blancs.
