Pezinok winery founded in 1991, working with growers in the Small Carpathian and South Slovak regions.
Peter Matyšák founded his family winery in 1991, in Pezinok, a town at the foot of the Small Carpathians whose wine tradition goes back centuries. Two years later he moved production into a 300-year-old winery in the centre of town. That old building still houses his restaurant, Vinum Galeria Bozen.
In 2002 the cellar moved again, into a new winery built from the ground up in Glejovka, a part of Pezinok. A second cellar, for ageing wine in oak casks and barriques, followed in 2006.
The grapes come from two regions, the Small Carpathians around Pezinok and the warmer south of Slovakia. For almost three decades Matyšák has worked with leading growers there, and that is how the house keeps a steady range. Among the vineyards it describes are the tracts of Gutegrund and Chrastina in Grinava, a part of Pezinok, on granite, weathered granite and stony sand.
Besides wine, the house sells spirits and non-alcoholic drinks. Matyšák is also one of the Slovak wineries that make wine for Tesco's Finest label. Its marketing manager told the news agency SITA in 2022 that the winery wants to show people a better bottle is worth a euro or two more.
