Interesting take on Blanc de Blancs. Expressive and elegant at the same time. Honey, Jerez, apples, brioche, vanilla and white flowers. Salty and fresh mouthfeel, almost perfectly balanced, precise and delicious. And so easy to drink.
Cote Grand Cru 2016 is one of Bérêche's small-volume single-village Blanc de Blancs cuvees - 100% Chardonnay from a Grand Cru village on the Cote des Blancs, vinified and aged in oak in the house style. 70 months on lees, disgorged March 2022 as Extra Brut. The same Cote Chouilly Chardonnay project later moved into the Domaine les Monts Fournois umbrella, which now releases Cote Chouilly under the Crus Selectionnes range.
Long elevage on lees in chalk cellars is the through-line for the Cote des Blancs Bérêche style - tight, precise, more nervous than fruity, with a savory cast that the house's barrel work tends to underline rather than mask.
