Like the Denois, this one has improved since my last encounter - more lush, friendlier, more approachable. A bit perfumed, good fruit core, bruised apples, orchard. The finish is still a bit empty - oily rather than long - but it's more honest now, less confused about what it wants to be. Needs a touch more time, but not much. Good entry-level Champagne.
Caught in an awkward position - not expressive or rich enough to be a crowd-pleaser, not deep or complex enough to justify the rough edges and raw chalky minerality. Despite all the bakery notes, it's neither particularly delicious nor particularly interesting. Compare to Hippocampe: that one's honest about being simple and delivers pleasure. This one seems unsure what it wants to be.
