Easy table wine. A bit restrained on the nose and the palate, but with enough power to pair well with food. Lively fruit-forward register - fresh strawberries, red berries, subtle herbal whisper. Featherlight and juicy, mouth-watering acidity, practically no tannin. Not complex, but delicious and somehow interesting anyway.
The Raven is Podere Erica's light, drink-chilled red - the producer's own recipe historically lists 50% Sangiovese / 30% Canaiolo / 20% Trebbiano (note the white grape in the red blend). The 2023 back label only mentions Sangiovese and Canaiolo, so Trebbiano may have been dropped this vintage. Whole-cluster maceration for four to eight days, spontaneous fermentation, around nine months on lees in stainless, bottled unfiltered. Vinified IGT Toscana rather than DOCG, in keeping with the lighter, less-tannic style. Only 918 bottles produced from the 2023 vintage - well below the usual ~5,000 - mirroring the dramatic Chianti Classico harvest that year (heavy peronospora across Italy plus hail at home). 12.5% ABV. Drink chilled.
