Join to read it and the restThis is Camel Valley's Cornwall Brut. The Reserve band is part of its regular label, not a sign of extra ageing; that is what the separate Special Reserve, with five years on the lees, is for. The 2015 is half Seyval Blanc, with 35% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir.
The grapes were crushed and only the free-run juice went into the sparkling wine, fermented cold, at no more than 13 °C. After the second fermentation in bottle it spent up to 24 months on the lees.
Seyval Blanc is there by choice: Bob Lindo likes it because it grows so well in Cornwall and gives something distinctively different from Champagne. As a hybrid, it keeps the wine out of the English sparkling PDO, which is open only to Chardonnay and the Pinots, so the wine sits in the regional PGI instead.
