It comes from a small mixed farm in Regione Cerreto, La Morra, founded in 2010 when the Borgogno and Rivata families joined their holdings; per its langhe.net profile the vines share roughly 40 hectares with cereals, orchards and vegetables, and the whole cellar turns out only about 10,000 bottles a year.
The core of the regime is corroborated by importers on both sides of the Atlantic: 14 days of maceration in stainless steel, then a full year of aging in concrete tanks. The estate's New York merchant Thirst adds that the fruit is hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented, and that the wine goes to bottle unfined and unfiltered with under 20 ppm of added sulphur. The producer describes the vinification as extremely delicate, aiming at a fruity red with a subtle note of white pepper that takes well to a light chill. The 2023 made 2,070 bottles at 13% alcohol.
Farming is low-intervention with no certification claimed, and sources describe it differently: the estate's local profile speaks of integrated pest management without herbicides, while its US importer says the vines see no chemicals. The 2023 season in the Langhe was one of extremes: langhe.net's producers' survey records a wet, disease-prone spring and a freak July hailstorm that hit some zones hard, and the drinks business describes summer heatwaves near 40 C with a slightly delayed harvest picked in mostly favourable conditions.
