Join to read it and the restLe Marne, 'the marls,' is Isolabella della Croce's Monferrato Rosso, named for the calcareous marl the vines root into at Loazzolo, up in the Alto Monferrato hills of Asti. A Piedmontese red led by Barbera, with Nebbiolo and Dolcetto filling it out and the proportions shifting vintage to vintage. Isolabella is a tiny estate better known for its Alta Langa spumante and Pinot Nero; this is the house's everyday table red, each variety vinified apart and then married. Monferrato DOC, 14%.
