Épiphanie Fetească Neagră

Technically, nothing's wrong here. But do I want to drink this oak bomb? Not really. Everything's arguably balanced for this fruit-forward, wood-heavy style, I'll give it that. Black fruits drowning in smoke, tobacco, vanilla, coconut. Round but somehow sweet, with rough tannins that don't quite integrate. Moderate acidity trying to hold it all together. Full-bodied to the point of exhaustion. This is cigar wine, or maybe steak wine, but definitely not Tuesday-night-on-the-couch (or balcony) wine. Fetească Neagră can be so much more interesting than this. Shame.
