Honestly, I had no idea what I was drinking. My heart was rooting for Italy, but this is unlike anything I've tasted. Super strange - hazelnuts, machine oil, tar, rice bražka. The body's more like Palomino than Riesling (at least in my book), which threw me completely. Excellent acidity saves it, but the weight and texture are deeply unconventional. Turns out it's fermented in oak with indigenous yeasts after cold maceration, which explains some of the weirdness. Interesting, unusual, genuinely intriguing - though I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. This is Riesling doing cosplay as something else entirely.
