Join to read it and the restThe red that Domaine de la Touraize blends rather than bottles by variety: 60% Trousseau and 40% Pinot Noir, co-fermented rather than assembled after the fact. The two grapes come off different ground - the estate gives grey marl for the Pinot Noir and gravel over marl for the Trousseau - which is most of the argument for putting them together.
The cuvée was born of an accident. Frost wrecked the Jura in 2017 and cut the estate to 18 hl/ha, too little fruit to fill two reds, so the Trousseau and the Pinot Noir went into one wine - and it stayed. Those early vintages were raised eighteen months in foudre; this 2022 was fermented and raised in amphora instead.
Vines worked without chemistry, indigenous yeasts, bottled unfiltered, and under 20 mg/L of total sulphur in the finished wine. The estate is certified organic and Demeter.
