Marquis de Blanc

Marquis de Blanc is not a Burgundy. The label reads Vin de l'Union Européenne, the EU category (Regulation 2019/33, article 45) for a wine blended from several member states or made in one member state from grapes harvested in another, a category that by definition carries no appellation; this bottle prints no vintage and no grape variety either, and the label names no member state of origin. What it does say is that the wine is dry, 11% alcohol, and bottled in France by François Martenot at its Vignoles plant outside Beaune; the Ukrainian back label adds only that it is made from European grape varieties. The house's own website lists no such wine, its catalogue being Burgundy, Beaujolais and Crémant de Bourgogne, and the label appears in Ukrainian retail listings alongside what those listings show as a semi-sweet Marquis de Blanc Moelleux at 10.5%, two codes away in the same EAN block. The producer publishes no grape composition, vineyard source or residual sugar for it.
