Join to read it and the restPierre Amillet works with one grape and two villages. Robert Moncuit makes only Chardonnay, from vines in the grands crus of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, and Les Grands Blancs is the wine that draws on both: half of the domaine's parcels go into it.
The base wine ferments in oak barrels with native yeasts and goes through full malolactic. It then spends ten months on its fine lees without stirring, and is neither fined nor filtered.
This release is built on the 2021 harvest, with 2020 as the reserve wine. It was a small, hard year across Champagne. The Comité Champagne estimated losses of close to 30% to frost and a further 25 to 30% to mildew, though Decanter reported the Côte des Blancs less badly hit by the frost.
The magnums then lay 41 months on their lees, which puts the tirage in the summer of 2022. They were disgorged in December 2025 with no dosage at all. Critics recorded about 3 g/l on the May 2019 disgorgement; this one has nothing added.
The name on the bottle is still Extra Brut. The sugar it allows for was simply never used.
