Le Clarence de Haut-Brion is the second wine of Château Haut-Brion, renamed from Château Bahans Haut-Brion starting with the 2007 vintage in tribute to Clarence Dillon. It draws from the same gravel croupes of Pessac as the grand vin, made up of vats not selected for the first wine plus younger-vine fruit - no separate parcels are dedicated to it.
The 2010 blend is 52% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Fermentation in stainless-steel tanks (Haut-Brion has used stainless steel since 1961), followed by malolactic, blending, and transfer to barrel. 35% new oak for this 2010 release. Bottled 4-6 June 2012. 14.5% ABV.
2010 was the driest growing season in Bordeaux since 1949. Cool nights preserved acidity and produced wines among the deepest-coloured in recent memory - widely paired with 2009 as a back-to-back great Bordeaux duo. Harvest at Haut-Brion ran from 9 September to 9 October 2010.
